FAQ

  • Why is TCTSY offered in 8 session packages?

3 main reasons: 1) 8 session series are closed groups, meaning no new faces. So you get to build a safe community in which to experience your body. 2) Titration & dosage are carefully increased over the course of 8 sessions. This means you start with a low dose of choices & attention to your body, and gradually increase those over time, which is a best practice in trauma treatment. 3) The research is overwhelming that symptom reduction is achieved between 6 & 8 sessions.

  • Will you walk around or do adjustments?

No. In Trauma Sensitive Yoga, the facilitator does not leave his/her mat in general. There is no touching, and there are no alignment cues or corrections to your form.

  • I'm not flexible.

That’s okay! The goal of TCTSY is not exercise or flexibility. The goal is to create safe opportunities for you to make choices with your body. You don’t need to be able to fold forward & touch your toes, or angle your arm in any certain way. Your choices to move are the treatment.

  • What if I don't feel like doing yoga that day?

I’m 100% fine with you sitting on your mat, or standing even, and just watching. That’s your choice, and choices in TCTSY are real. You’ll still get tremendous benefit from coming to a practice and choosing NOT to do some (or any) shapes, because it’s about choice & not exercise.

If you’re in a private session & you don’t feel like moving, we can switch our focus to something else, at your direction. You make the choices for how the practice goes.

  • Am I wasting time & money if I choose not to participate?

No. The ability to sit with another person & make different choices than them is a huge part of trauma recovery.

Choosing not to participate for part or all of the practice might be the most difficult & healing experience you have in Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

  • Where are the classes?
